The Security Council voted Wednesday to extend the duration of the peacekeeping force in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for a year, with any reductions based on a decrease in violence and the stability of the central government.

Security Council Approves 4,200 Troops to Sudan

The UN Security Council voted Monday to deploy 4,200 peacekeeping troops to Sudan’s disputed Abyei region. The peacekeeping force is tasked with defusing tensions in the lead-up to Southern Sudan’s independence on July 9th.

Tunisia Joins International Criminal Court

Tunisia became the first North African nation to join the International Criminal Court this past Friday. It is the 116th party to the landmark treaty, first instituted in 2002.
